Fotografiska New York, opening to the public tomorrow the 14th of December, 2019.

The Museum located in the Flat-Iron District of New York is the NYC location of the renowned Stockholm-based destination for the world’s best photography. Founded in 2010, brothers Jan and Per Broman built the concept of Fotografiska on the foundation of photography as a haven for innovation, inclusivity and free expression.

The anticipated opening was delayed as transforming the historic landmark Church Missions House and combing it with the adjacent the Calvary Church took far more time and money than expected.

Cetra Ruddy led the design and renovation, while Higgins Quasebarth & Partners consulted on the preservation and restoration, including exposing imposing steel beams, stained glass windows, and the original limestone and granite façade.

The space also includes Verōnika, a restaurant and bar designed by Roman and Williams Buildings and Interiors, operated by STARR Restaurants, as well as a light-filled sixth-floor event and programming space, and a first-floor bar and lounge called V at Fotografiska slated to open next month with the potential for use as additional programming space. Verōnika’s executive chef Robert Aikens will create a pan-European menu sampling cuisines of northern France, Austria, and Eastern Europe, in an effort to promote seasonality and sustainability.

Differentiating itself from museums and traditional galleries, Fotografiska will be open from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Sunday through Wednesday, and from 9 a.m. to midnight on Thursday through Saturday.
